B.E.A.R. Fair
(Be Excited About Reading)

Committee Chair: Jolyn Krabbenhoft

What is B.E.A.R. Fair?
In order to provide quality programs to our schools and community, Valley Reading Council engages in ONE fundraiser per year, which we have affectionately called B.E.A.R.(Be Excited About Reading) Fair.
Is this a door-to-door sale?
Since we DO NOT feel comfortable in asking students to go "door-to-door", and want to encourage literacy in the home this fundraiser is a perfect fit! Here the students are asked to fill-out postcards with the names of family, and friends that might be interested in purchasing magazines. (Absolutely no "SELLING" is required!) The postcards are sent to QSP/Readers Digest, a school fundraising company, who in turn sends out the information to those names.
When is the B.E.A.R. Fair?
The fundraiser typically occurs in late January or early February.
What happens to the names sent?
These names and addresses are then destroyed each year and are not sold to other companies.
Who explains the B.E.A.R. Fair process?
Classroom teachers explain the procedure to their students and collect the postcards.
Do students get prizes?
Prizes are given to students a few weeks later.
When do the subscriptions start to arrive?
Subscriptions are generally received by May.
